Three decisions before the first trowel

Most vinyl failures are decided before the first strip is laid. These three decisions fix the rest.

01 Accept the substrate on numbers, not on looks

Two readings decide acceptance: residual moisture and flatness. A dry-looking slab that reads high will bubble in three months, and no adhesive compensates for it. Primer GP166 goes on before the adhesive, not instead of it.

02 Match the trowel to the substrate, not to habit

The notch controls how much adhesive reaches the sheet. A2 or B3 notched trowel is the usual starting point; a porous or uneven slab takes the coarser notch. Too fine a notch starves the bond, too coarse leaves ridges that telegraph through a 2.0 mm sheet.

03 Work inside the open time, not behind it

Open time is 10–30 min and tack time 10–15 min. Once the film stops transferring to the back of the sheet, the bond is already lost — roll it back and re-coat rather than pressing harder. Below 10 °C performance drops sharply; do not install below 5 °C.

Where the warranty starts and stops

The adhesive answers for the bond it forms; the substrate and the installation answer for what it was bonded to. Both halves are written here so that nothing is argued after handover.

Warranty counts from arrival at the destination port, not from the invoice date. It does not cover bubbling caused by residual moisture in the substrate, or installation outside the specification above.

FAQ

Is it suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, with the substrate temperature between 15-25°C and surface ≤27°C.

What trowel should I use?

A2 notched trowel for sheet, B1/B2 for LVT — coverage adjusts accordingly.

Does it meet VOC limits?

Yes — solvent-free formulation with low emissions, suitable for schools and hospitals.

What adhesive should I use for PVC flooring?

For glue-down PVC flooring use a quality acrylic (or PU) adhesive matched to the substrate — not neoprene / contact cement. Trowel notch size and open time depend on the adhesive and the substrate; our technical team can confirm the right product and coverage per m² for your job.

When is self-leveling compound needed before vinyl installation?

Self-leveling compound is needed when the subfloor is uneven, shows trowel marks or falls outside the flatness tolerance of the flooring. It creates a smooth, level substrate before glue-down vinyl installation. We can supply self-leveling compound together with the flooring and adhesive as a complete installation package.
